EC technology for air conditioning in trains The air conditioners in the new ICE 4 trains, which are scheduled to commence regular operation next year, are equipped with RadiCal centrifugal fans from ebm-papst. The fans are designed for ambient temperatures between -40 °C and +60 °C, covering the typical temperature range for railway applications. They are integrated in an easily installed and specially designed lightweight, high-strength aluminum module and are driven by the latest generation of energy-efficient EC motors. When combined with the FlowGrid air-inlet guard, they achieve unprecedented levels of noise reduction. Satisfying the toughest requirements The new fans satisfy requirements for EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) according to EN 50121-3-2 and for shock and vibration resistance according to IEC 61373. In addition, TÜV SÜD, a German certification institute, has confirmed that their design, materials and production are in full compliance with DIN EN 45545 at the highest hazard level, HL3. Fire safety regulations are no obstacle for the ebm-papst railway fans thanks to their use of special plastics. The new centrifugal fans will be available in sizes 250-355 starting in fall 2016. Motor-gearbox combinations Besides fans for air conditioning, ebm-papst will also be presenting a wide range of motor-gearbox combinations for railway systems at InnoTrans. Industrial drive engineering products can be found in door drives, drives for boarding aids or in special applications such as drives for windshield wipers. Drive solutions from ebm-papst feature intelligent functionality, unbeatable innovation, reliable operation and future-proof design.
