The ebm‑papst Group's science-based emission reduction targets have been confirmed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This validation underlines that ebm‑papst's climate targets in Scope 1 to 3 are ambitious and in line with the Paris Climate Agreement of the United Nations and the latest findings of climate science. The Group aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions further significantly by 2030 and thus actively contribute to limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees.

The SBTi has validated the following short-term emission reduction targets of ebm‑papst:

• ebm‑papst Group commits to reduce its absolute Scope 1* and Scope 2* greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by the 2030 financial year, starting from the base year 2021/22.
• ebm‑papst Group commits to reduce its absolute Scope 3* greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by the 2030 financial year, starting from the base year 2021/22.

ebm‑papst is taking an active role in the combating against climate change and recognizes the urgency of halving emissions by 2030. The company is already working intensively to reduce its direct and indirect emissions. ebm‑papst Group has already successfully calculated the emissions in Scope 1, 2 and 3 for the last three completed financial years.

To drive forward the reduction of Scope 1 and 2 emissions, ebm‑papst has derived the following measures: The optimization of energy efficiency in the production process, for example through increased waste heat utilization and optimized energy and shutdown management, the installation of photovoltaic systems and the purchase of green electricity. By purchasing green electricity, 49.6% of all emissions could already be avoided in 2023. The third photovoltaic system at the Hollenbach plant will be connected to the grid in 2024 and preparations are currently underway for the commissioning of further systems in Slovenia and Hungary. A special budget of 10 million euros for sustainability projects forms the basis.

In the area of Scope 3, the Group aims to optimize its product and material efficiency. To this end, ebm‑papst maintains a close dialog with its suppliers and develops solutions together. In addition, ebm‑papst is revising its logistics concept and introducing more e-trucks.
